Christina Aguilera gets ‘Back to Basics’ with softer image
Christina Aguilera is a Dirrty Girl no more!
Xtina said she’s softening up her pop princess persona for the launch of her upcoming double-disc album “Back to Basics.” But not because she regrets the raunchy image she exuded in her sophomore album, “Stripped.”
“I was proud of myself for having the balls to do it,” the 25-year-old singer told Newsweek. “Everybody had an opinion. If you liked it, you wanted to root for me - ‘Look, she’s empowered,’ If not, well, you’d stick all those labels on me.”
Aguilera, who married music exec Jordan Bratman last fall, has gone through her fair share of labels.
Her self-titled solo debut, in 1999, was branded bubblegum - and that’s what motivated her to tart it up a few notches for her second album, she told Newsweek. Hence, the writhing around on stage clad in leather chaps, red undies and a bikini top for her second album’s tour.
But now the soulful singer is going for a more classic look.
“It’s more pin-up, tongue-in-cheek,” a perfectly coiffed Aguilera explained.
But through all her wardrobe changes, she insisted she hasn’t lost touch with her former Mousketeer clan. And that any bad blood reported between she and Britney Spears was dreamed up by the press.
“Justin’s (Timberlake) always been a friend,” she said. “(Britney and I) were like best friends, but the media saw a navel and blonde hair and had to create some drama.”
Oh, sure, blame the press . . .
